playing is learning

Can Do playschemes offer a broad range of activities for children and young people with additional support needs in East Lothian during Easter, summer and October school holidays.

We always aim to have our volunteers working on a 1-to-1 basis with the children and young people who come to playscheme, building a deep understanding of individual needs and developing great friendships too.

Important info

Can Do children usually start coming to playscheme when they’re about 8 years old, if they were referred at the age of 5 (we wish it was sooner, but we’ve got a very long waiting list, so get your referral into us as soon as you can), and can come along until they’re 16.

Can Do playschemes run at three East Lothian locations – North Berwick, Haddington and Tranent – 4 days a week for three weeks during the summer holidays and one week during the Easter and October breaks (no October playscheme at Tranent).

Every child is entitled to a total of 5 playscheme weeks a year. We charge a nominal fee of £33 per child per week, and Can Do also provides door-to-door playscheme transport to pick up and drop off your youngsters at home, giving parents and carers more time for a bit of a break.

Can Do playschemes offer brilliant value for money with a jam-packed programme of awesome activities and outings. Some of the things the Can Do kids can do at playscheme include:

  • Outdoor play
  • Bouncy castle
  • Swimming
  • Cookery & baking
  • Bikes
  • Horse riding
  • Arts & crafts
  • Music & drama
  • Trips & outings
  • Sensory room

We also work alongside other East Lothian charities to provide additional activities including:

Muirfield Riding Therapy
