in partnership with East Lothian Play Association (SC050202)

Play Can Include us all.

Announcing our latest project launching October 2022 in partnership with East Lothian Play Association (ELPA) funded by Thrive Outdoors. The project will conclude in March 23.

Children’s right to play is at the heart of all our plans. PlayCan aims to open up access to outdoor play sessions in East Lothian for children and young people with additional support needs and their families.

Free, fun. Friendly! The sessions are free of charge, in local green spaces and parks. ELPA and Can Do staff will be there with inclusive resources and activities to support play for the whole family.

ELPA currently offer Play Ranger and Pop Up Play sessions. Children are free to drop in as they choose, and the Play Rangers facilitate play opportunities that respond to the children’s ideas and interests. Play Rangers bring a supply of ‘loose parts’ play items and make use of the natural environment for play.

At present these are as not widely accessed as we would hope by children with additional support needs. Our PlayCAN partnership hopes to bring new ways of thinking to ensure children and families feel included, are offered play opportunities appropriate to their needs, and feel included in their local community spaces.

Let’s get started!

PlayCan will run ten pilot play sessions in various East Lothian locations. Keep an eye on our social media for all the updates on the play locations @candoscot & @eastlothianplay. #whatevertheweather The sessions are mainly outdoors so check for any weather-related changes of plans!
